—30 years since HIV and AIDS appeared on the global horizon. 

—Over 30 million people in the world are today infected.

—Yet rarely do most churches even spend 30 minutes talking about this global crisis.  

An announcement 30 years ago this week noted the appearance of new disease attacking humanity.  Despite the progress made in the struggle to provide medical care and services to persons around the world, the greatest dilemma still exists--the terrible stigmatization of persons infected by the disease.

What is particularly outrageous and scandalous is that religious leaders and communities are often at the forefront of those stigmatizing and discrimination.   Moralistic, judgmental, and exclusivistic approaches too often have dominated the Christian and other religious perspectives. 

This blog and the Center for the Church and Global AIDS works with other persons of goodwill in seeking to eradicate stigma and to overcome bigotry in the church and society.  Help us speak out and break the silence in every place!
